Creed Speaking
The FFA Creed Speaking LDE is designed for first-year members who recite the FFA Creed from memory and respond to questions about its message and significance. This event helps students build strong public speaking skills while developing confidence in presenting their ideas clearly and respectfully. It also encourages members to reflect on the values and traditions that guide agricultural leadership.
Impromptu Speaking
The purpose of the Impromptu Public Speaking Career Development Event is to foster and develop the speaking abilities of FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in inter-personal skill attainment and leadership development. The intention of the Impromptu Contest is to offer a more realistic, practical speaking contest to better prepare our students for public statements, media coverage, and general questions about the FFA and Agriculture Industry. Students will develop the valuable speaking skills necessary to be professional, competent public representatives of the FFA Organization and Agriculture Industry. The primary purpose of the event is to demonstrate the student’s ability with limited preparation time to compose and deliver coherent and focused oral presentations.
Extemporaneous Speaking
In the Extemporaneous Public Speaking LDE, participants are given 30 minutes to deliver a speech on one of three assigned agricultural topics. Students must learn to think on their feet and develop an argument quickly and persuasively.
Job Interview
Participants in the Employment Skills (formerly Job Interview) LDE submit a resume, complete job applications and participate in mock job interviews with a panel of possible employers.
Prepared Speaking
During the Prepared Public Speaking LDE, students will write and deliver a six to eight minute speech about a current agriculture-related topic. The speaking skills gained through this event help students excel in school, community, and a career.
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies emphasize the purpose of meetings, the duties of officers and the significance of recognition given to individuals. All official FFA ceremonies are to be memorized, rehearsed and conducted with pride and dignity. A "walk-through" in the room where the meeting, banquet or special function is to be held will ensure a smooth performance if proper physical arrangements are complete and all parties know their responsibilities and speaking assignments. Never forget that you and your chapter are on display. Your performance should reflect sincerity and leadership.
Spanish Creed Speaking
The Spanish Creed Speaking LDE allows members to present the FFA Creed in Spanish and answer questions that explore its meaning and importance. This event strengthens communication skills, supports language development, and helps students gain confidence when speaking in a second language.
Note: While Creed Speaking is limited to first-year students only, Spanish Creed Speaking is available for any grade level. Students must reach out to an advisor in order to compete in this specific competition.
